Whether you’re envisioning an intimate gathering or a lavish celebration, this checklist covers every detail to ensure your wedding day is as perfect as you’ve always imagined. From setting your budget and choosing the perfect venue to selecting the finest attire and booking top-tier vendors, this checklist will keep you organized and stress-free. My goal is to help you create a seamless, unforgettable experience for you and your guests.

Just Got Engaged
- Announce Your Engagement: Share the big news with family and friends.
- Set a Budget: Determine your overall wedding budget and who’s contributing.
- Create a Guest List: Draft an initial list to get an idea of the number of guests.
- Choose a Date: Decide on a wedding date or a few potential dates.
- Decide What Style Wedding You Want: To name a few: Classic/traditional, boho, modern, vintage, destination, garden.
- Hire a Wedding Planner: I highly recommend using a planner. I did for mine and it takes so much stress off your shoulders. I also recommend hiring your planner early as their advice can be invaluable.
12-9 Months Before the Wedding
- Book the Venue: Secure your ceremony and reception locations.
- Hire Key Vendors: Book your photographer, videographer, caterer, florist, and entertainment. (The blog post after this one goes over all the vendors you can have involved in your wedding. Feel free to pop over to that page here to make sure you’re not missing anything!)
- Shop for Your Dress: Begin the search for your wedding dress and schedule fittings.
- Engagement Photos: Schedule and take your engagement photos.
- Create a Wedding Website: Share details with your guests about the wedding day, accommodation, and registry. I used www.withjoy.com. It’s free and so easy to use!
8-6 Months Before the Wedding
- Send Save-the-Dates: Inform your guests of the date.
- Plan the Ceremony: Meet with your officiant to plan the ceremony structure.
- Choose Attire for Bridal Party: Select and order bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen attire.
- Register for Gifts: Create your wedding registry.
- Book Transportation: Arrange transportation for the wedding day for you and your guests.
5-4 Months Before the Wedding
- Order Invitations: Choose and order your wedding invitations. I recommend Shine Wedding Invitaions. You can’t go wrong with their classic and elegant designs.
- Plan the Honeymoon: Book flights, accommodations, and activities.
- Finalize the Menu: Confirm your menu with the caterer and plan the tasting (if needed).
- Order Wedding Bands: Choose and purchase your wedding rings.
- Hire a Hair and Makeup Artist: Schedule a trial run for your bridal hair and makeup.
3-2 Months Before the Wedding
- Send Invitations: Mail your wedding invitations.
- Purchase Wedding Day Accessories: Buy shoes, jewelry, and other accessories.
- Confirm Details with Vendors: Go over the timeline and any last-minute details.
- Plan the Rehearsal Dinner: Book the venue and send out invitations.
- Write Your Vows: Start drafting your wedding vows.
1 Month Before the Wedding
- Apply for Marriage License: Ensure you have the necessary documents.
- Create a Seating Chart: Plan where your guests will sit during the reception (this can be a task done with your wedding planner if you have one).
- Get a Final Dress Fitting: Ensure your dress fits perfectly.
- Confirm Details with Vendors: Double-check all arrangements and provide them with the final timeline (your photographer and planner will help you with the timeline).
- Pack for the Honeymoon: Start packing for your post-wedding trip. Tip: Don’t leave the morning after your wedding, you will be exhausted! Give yourself a day to recover from partying and then leave.
1-2 Weeks Before the Wedding
- Follow Up with RSVPs: Reach out to guests who haven’t responded.
- Prepare Final Payments: Organize payments for vendors and gratuities.
- Break in Your Shoes: Wear your wedding shoes around the house to avoid discomfort on the day.
- Delegate Tasks: Assign wedding day tasks to trusted friends and family.
- Pick Up Dress and Tux: Ensure everything is ready for the big day.
Day Before the Wedding
- Rehearse the Ceremony: Run through the ceremony with the bridal party.

Wedding Day
