If you’re a Montana bride planning your dream wedding, one of the biggest questions you might have is:
“How do I make sure I have enough time for all of my wedding photos without feeling rushed?”

I hear this all the time! And the truth is, creating a stress-free wedding photography timeline is one of the easiest ways to make your day feel smooth, relaxed, and—most importantly—joyful. As a Montana wedding photographer, I help my couples craft timelines that give them plenty of time for beautiful, authentic photos and moments to soak in the day.

Here’s The Ultimate Wedding Photography Timeline to help you plan the perfect flow for your Montana wedding!

Why Your Wedding Photography Timeline Matters

A well-planned timeline does more than just keep things on schedule. It:

  • Ensures you have time for all those must-have shots (without feeling rushed!).
  • Allows for flexibility in case Montana’s weather has its own plans (because let’s be honest, it often does!).
  • Keeps you feeling relaxed and present, knowing everything is handled.
  • Makes sure you get that dreamy glowy light that Montana is famous for.

Ideal Wedding Day Timeline for Montana Brides

1:00 PM | Getting Ready Photos

  • Timeframe: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • I typically start with detail shots (dress, shoes, jewelry, invites) and candids of you and your bridesmaids getting ready.
  • This is also the time I photograph your partner and their crew prepping—whether that’s getting suited up or sharing a toast.
💡 Pro Tip: Choose a getting-ready space with lots of natural light! Places like Fox Fields or The Ridge at Greenbluff offer beautiful spaces with plenty of windows.

2:30 PM | Bride Gets Dressed + Final Touches

  • Timeframe: 30 minutes
  • These moments with your mom, sister, or besties helping you into your dress are always emotional. I’ll guide you through natural, candid shots as you get ready for the big reveal.

3:00 PM | First Look (Optional) + Couple Portraits

  • Timeframe: 30 to 45 minutes
  • If you’re doing a First Look, this is when we’ll set up a private, emotional moment for you and your partner.
  • Afterward, we’ll take romantic couple portraits while you’re both fresh and glowing!
💡 Montana Bonus: Locations like Sage Lodge and Green Valley Ranch offer breathtaking backdrops for these moments. And if you’re up for a little adventure, we can sneak away for epic mountain views or lakeside portraits.

3:45 PM | Wedding Party Photos

  • Timeframe: 30 minutes
  • We’ll capture the full wedding party—both posed and candid shots of your VIPs. This is the time to laugh, celebrate, and get some fun group photos.
💡 Style Tip: I’ll help with flattering posing and keep things moving so everyone stays happy (and doesn’t miss cocktail hour!).

4:30 PM | Family Photos

  • Timeframe: 20 to 30 minutes
  • I always recommend making a list of your must-have family photo combinations beforehand. We’ll knock these out efficiently, so everyone can relax and enjoy the rest of the day.

5:00 PM | Ceremony Begins

  • Timeframe: 30 minutes to 1 hour
  • Whether you’re getting married under the big sky of Paradise Valley or in a rustic barn at Copper Rose Ranch, this is your time to shine!
  • I’ll capture all the moments—from the walk down the aisle to your first kiss.

6:00 PM | Cocktail Hour + Golden Hour Portraits

  • Timeframe: 30 minutes
  • After the ceremony, you can mingle with guests or sneak away for golden hour photos.
💡 Why it matters: Montana’s golden hour is something special. The soft, warm light is perfect for romantic, glowing portraits. We’ll head to a nearby field, mountain overlook, or lakeside spot depending on your venue.

6:30 PM | Reception + Grand Entrance

  • Timeframe: Varies
  • It’s time to celebrate! I’ll capture your entrance, toasts, first dances, and those candid, joy-filled moments with your favorite people.

8:00 PM | Sunset Portraits (Optional but Highly Recommended!)

  • Timeframe: 15 minutes
  • We’ll sneak away for one more round of portraits as the sun dips behind the mountains. These can be some of the most stunning images from your wedding day, with a quiet, intimate vibe after the energy of the ceremony and reception.

8:30 PM | Dancing + Candids

  • Whether you’re dancing under the stars or lighting sparklers for your grand exit, I’ll be there to capture every moment until the very end.

11:00 PM | Exit

  • Plan your exit with something fun and memorable! Whether it’s sparklers, confetti, glow sticks, or even a vintage car getaway, this is your big send-off moment—and it makes for some of the most iconic photos of the night.
  • If you’re planning to party until late, I can stay through the festivities and capture those last epic dance floor moves before we line everyone up for your exit!
